The Psalmist David wrote in Psalm 56:3-4, “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”
Perhaps you’ve noticed that in verse 3, David does not say, “If I am afraid.” He says, “ What time” or “when.” Times of fearfulness will come into your life. Anxieties will arise, not only because this is a fallen world we live in, but also because, in order to teach you faith, the Father must bring you to the end of yourself so you will choose to trust Him completely. This is a necessary lesson and an indispensable part of maturing you as a believer.
So today, consider: Is your heart in despair? Are questions, painful thoughts, or fears flooding your mind? Is there an overwhelming situation that you cannot handle?
Do as David did and come back to the truth of your Father’s perfect provision and unfailing care for your every need. God has not abandoned you and He never will (Deuteronomy 31:6,8)! Trust Him to help you.
Prayer thought: “Lord Jesus, when I’m afraid, I will trust You and have faith in Your provision and protection. Thank You for loving me and drawing me closer to You, amen.”
Today’s focus: Abandon yourself to God’s loving, trustworthy care.
