Are there areas in your life where, because of past pain and self-protection, you will not allow the Word of God to take hold? If so, then it’s likely that when the storms of life arise, and they will arise, you are completely devastated, and you don’t have anything solid to anchor your life to.
We read in Matthew 13:21, “Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended (or immediately he falls away).”
This is why it’s so crucial that you constantly renew your mind and allow the Lord to, using farming language, “plow up the ground” of your heart so that the Word of God can take root deep within you and you know what you believe without wavering.
The apostle Paul put it this way in Ephesians 4:14, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.”
So today, ask the Father to reveal the issues that are preventing you from accepting His Word, the areas where you have refused to trust Him. You may already know what they are because they are constantly causing you trouble. But acknowledge the rocky places and commit yourself to applying God’s truth to your life. It will be difficult, but it’s worthwhile because this is where your true healing begins.
Prayer thought: “Father, please reveal areas in my life where Scripture hasn’t taken root yet. Make Your Word the foundation of my life so that I may glorify Your name, amen.”
For today, allow God’s truth to take root in your heart.
