Have you ever experienced times in your life, spiritually speaking, when you have felt discouraged, dry, and weak? As if God has disappeared and you’re merely surviving spiritually. At times, God allows you to face a season when you feel defeated and spiritually parched in order to draw you closer to Himself.
Although you might think the desert experiences of life would drive you farther from the Savior, they can actually mature your faith in Him greatly. Like a lost child looking intently for his parents, you seek the Lord desperately, listen intently for His voice, and long for His presence.
In Psalm 42:2a the psalmist wrote, “My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God…” Is that true of you? Does your soul thirst for the living God?
To do so you must cast off anything or anyone that would hinder you from thirsting after God; that would hinder you from finding Him. In fact, more than likely you’ll discover that when you don’t feel the Father’s presence, it’s because you’ve unintentionally become focused on something or someone other than Him. You’re distracted and are no longer drinking in His marvelous presence. He’s not your first priority. It’s like John wrote regarding what Jesus said to the church at Ephesus in Revelation 2:4, “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.” Would Jesus say that of you? If so, He will create a thirst for Him in you.
So return to the Lord and enjoy Him. It may take time to rebuild your relationship, but be assured, those who seek Him, according to Matthew 5:6, “shall be filled.”
Prayer thought: “Lord, I’m thirsty for Your wonderful presence. Restore our fellowship, and help me experience Your everlasting love, amen.”
As you seek Jesus as your first love, I promise, your thirst will be satisfied. Drink from the well that will NEVER go dry!
