Moses records for us these words in Genesis 17:1-2, “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.”
Don’t miss the pivotal words in the covenant between the LORD and Abram: “I will.”
God used the term “covenant” no less than 13 times in Genesis 17. From the beginning, God took the full responsibility for fulfilling His promise, which was unconditional. Three times God calls it an “everlasting” covenant (vs. 7, 13 19), and He promises again the land to Abram’s seed as an “everlasting” possession in verse 8.
His name is changed from Abram, meaning “exalted father”, to Abraham, meaning “father of a multitude.” It was up to the LORD to give Abraham a son and multiply his descendants.
Have you ever asked the Lord to help you in some area? Is His answer taking longer than you expected? Does the attainment of your hope seem impossible? Don’t make the terrible mistake of taking matters into you own hands. That’s what Sarah did when she offered her maidservant Hagar to Abraham, and Israel is still suffering today because of her impatience.
Instead, remember that it’s “God who accomplishes all things” for you. Psalm 57:2 says, “I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me.”
Abraham’s only responsibility was to follow the LORD obediently, and the same is true for you.
So stop trying to handle everything on your own. It’s His responsibility. Trust that the Father has wondrous plans for your life and that He WILL bring them to pass.
Prayer thought: “Lord, thank You for taking full responsibility. Help me walk obediently and trust Your perfect plan for my life, amen.”
Today, trust that God will fulfill His promises.
