We live in a day and age very much like the one we read about in the Book of Judges. The theme of Judges is “every man did what was right in his own eyes.” We read in Judges 17:6, “In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.”
That surely sound like our current culture here in America. People living to please themselves, without any thought of God.
So when did the Israelites finally cry out to the Lord? In Judges 6:6 we read, “And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.”
When God took away every material resource they had, that’s when. The Lord knew exactly what it would take to get their attention: the destruction of all their possessions.
Has the Father allowed your finances to dry up? Has He taken something of great value from you? This is difficult to endure, but the Lord wants you to understand that He is your security – not anything you could possess.
Of course, you may say, “But I thought God promised to supply all my needs?” Yes, He did. We read in Philippians 4:19, “But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” And He will continue to do so. But He also knows that your greatest need is to have a relationship with Him and listen to Him.
Your spiritual well-being is far more important than anything material. So God will bring you to utter dependence on Him rather than allow your possessions to become a destructive idol in your life.
Prayer thought: “God, strip away my self-dependence and materialism so that I will always rest in Your provision, amen.”
Find the supply you need for all your needs in God alone.
