Do you have a difficult time staying focused on God?
The apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 9:27, “I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”
Self-control is a necessary discipline in meditation. There are so many things competing for your attention, it may be difficult to keep your focus on God. But strive to do so anyway. When maintaining your attention on Him is a problem, turn to Psalms and ask Him to work through His Word to direct your mind. Pray, “Father, immerse me in these psalms and reveal Yourself to me through them.”
Read Scripture until the Lord speaks to you. Don’t be discouraged if it takes a while. Soon enough, He will turn your mind to His will and His ways. Think about Him. Become lost in His love and grandeur. And when He shows you His truth, write it down in a journal.
Believe me, there’s nothing better, more productive, or more rewarding than to align your mind with the Father and ponder the great thoughts of almighty God.
So make the commitment. Take deliberate steps each day to control your mind and focus your attention on the Lord. Surely He will speak to you powerfully.
Prayer: “Father, help me control my thoughts and focus my attention on You. I delight in Your presence, amen.”
