Where do you place your confidence?
When Susanna Wesley was on her deathbed, she gathered her children around her. As she was about to be called home to heaven, she admonished her children not to weep but rather to “sing a hymn of praise.” Then with her last breath, she reminded them that the greatest comfort we have in any circumstance is the fact that “God is with us.”
Moses wrote in Deuteronomy 31:8 these words, “The LORD, He is the One whom goes before you. He will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you: do not fear nor be dismayed.”
We often need that reminder, don’t we? It is especially reassuring to hear these words when God has given us a difficult assignment, one that seems impossible and for which we feel totally unqualified. We are not the first to have experienced fear and hesitation in accepting God’s assignment.
Moses certainly didn’t do any cartwheels when God asked him to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt. He wasn’t excited about the task because he felt ill equipped to accomplish it. That’s when God spoke these courage-infusing words, “I will certainly be with you” (Exodus 3:12).
Those few precious words remind us that with God’s presence and help, we can accomplish any assignment. His presence instills confidence in our hearts.
So today, may your confidence rest in God’s presence.
