Daily Devotions

I believe it’s safe to say that we’ve all experienced times when we’ve listened to a message our pastor preached or times when we read our Bible, but moments later we couldn’t recall what we just heard or read. Am I right? Our minds are cluttered with worldly things about yesterday, today, and tomorrow. These things consume us, making it difficult for us to focus our mind on what our Heavenly Father wants to speak to our heart about.
Matthew 13:22 says, “This is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.”
Of course, it’s normal for us to think about daily demands and the challenges of everyday life. This year has been especially challenging dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. But Satan will do all he can to make us obsess over the challenges we face. He wants to turn our attention away from God and what He wants to say to us. So we must prepare our hearts, lest we miss the important truths that the Lord desires to share with us.
Don’t focus on your troubles; focus on the
Father. When your mind drifts, turn to the Psalms and begin reading. Consciously praise God, acknowledging His character and attributes. You will find that doing so is not only one of the best ways to break the bonds of your wandering mind, but will also give you peace about your problems.
Prayer thought: “Heavenly Father, I give all my burdens to You, today and everyday, knowing that You are faithful to accomplish all that concerns me, amen.”
For today, praise God and His character.
