One of the greatest truths you will ever read is: “The Fine Is Paid!”
There you are, cruising down the highway. And suddenly, there it is – you zoom pass a police car. It’s a moment of self-realization. You look down at your speedometer and you realize you’re going over the speed limit. You know you’re not supposed to go over the speed limit, and when you see the police car, you immediately slow down, watch in the rear view mirror, and feel the guilt. What will be the penalty if he pulls me over?
But stop and think, how often do you go about your day and suddenly find yourself caught in a moment of spiritual awareness? You’re doing what you shouldn’t- pursuing lusts, gossiping, giving into anger, or feeding your mind with things that don’t honor God (Colossians 3 1-17). If the Lord appeared before you, how would you respond?
As a child of God the apostle Paul reminds us of this truth, “You were bought with a price; therefore glorify God
in your body” (1 Corinthians 6:20).
The truth is, God is always beside you – seeing everything that you do. And there are always consequences to your disobedience. Thankfully, you can take joy in the fact that the eternal penalty for your sin has already been forgiven – Jesus paid your fine a long time ago when He died on the cross. But that is never a good reason to continue in sin. Paul wrote in Romans 6:1-2. “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sins, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”
Rather, declare your gratefulness to Him by honoring Him, as Paul said, with your body.
Prayer thought: “Lord, thank You that my spiritual debt has been paid in full! Please help me obey You so others may know You as their Savior too, amen.”
For today, May your focus be to honor the Lord with your whole life, your words and actions.
